Exclusive Tandem Tour of Vermont’s Lake Champlain Valley

July 13-18

Vermont-based Sojourn Bicycling Vacations has developed a deluxe tandem tour of the Lake Champlain Valley to specifically coincide with the 2014 Eastern Tandem Rally. Routes for Sojourn’s Lake Champlain Valley tour will not repeat any of the Rally routes.

Soujourn’s award-winning tour of the Lake Champlain Valley (Frommer’s named it one of the top ten bike tours in the world) has been redesigned specifically for tandem cyclists. Ride through covered bridges, experience the region’s finest road riding, and explore classic villages in one of the most beautiful states in the US.

Sojourn, based in the heart of the Lake Champlain Valley, has intimate knowledge of the most coveted routes and points of interest in the region. Spectacular Lake Champlain is nestled between Vermont’s rolling Green Mountains and the high peaks of New York’s Adirondacks. Gentle valley farmland offers miles of fabulous cycling, and mountain foothills are close enough to provide more challenging options for those who want them.

The tandem tour offers an exclusive stay, and dinner, at the magnificent Inn at Shelburne Farms – a most memorable evening to cap off the trip. The trip has been specifically designed for tandem cyclists in conjunction with the Eastern Tandem Rally which will be held in Vermont from July 18-20. Routes will not repeat those included in the Rally.

The Tour Package Includes:

Enjoy a private cruise across Lake Champlain to ride to historic Essex, New York.

Indulge in a private wine paired dinner featuring fresh Vermont products.

Learn about the history of the Morgan horse during a private farm tour.

Visit important sites of historic maritime battles along Lake Champlain.

Explore charming villages listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Ride Vermont’s finest back roads and pause for a dip in Lake Champlain.

The conclusion of this tour has been planned to transition seamlessly with the start of the first official ETR ride.

The 2014 Lake Champlain pre-ETR Tandem Tour

July 12-17

Our tour of Lake Champlain Islands takes full advantage of the lovely islands that are scattered haphazardly along its long and narrow length, and the unsurpassed views across the lake to the Green and Adirondack mountains. Connected by bridges and causeways to the rest of Vermont, these islands are blessed with a unique combination of exceptional rural scenery, big prosperous farms, cows and sheep grazing in green fields, the best apple and fruit orchards in New England, and historic structures built by Vermont’s earliest settlers.

Enjoy the Shelburne Museum, one of the finest diverse collections of art, Americana, and historic buildings.

Take the Water’s Edge route, a winding loop ride along the AuSable River as it meanders down to Lake Champlain. And ride the Acres of Apples tour through the apple orchards of northern New York. Hike through the famous AuSable Chasm.  Savor the tastes of Vermont – locally raised foods at great restaurants overlooking Lake Champlain, crisp apples, apple butter and fine wines. You get to enjoy all this while cycling along quiet lake shore roads that wander along the water’s edge!

Three (3) dinners
