Causeway bikes                             Causeway

Distance Options 20-58 miles

Start time: 10:00- 1:30 Please try to stagger your starts in small groups. The although Local Motion plans on running two ferries, space is limited to a maximum of 6 bikes per crossing (approx. 48 bikes per hour), so staggering starts will prevent build up at the causeway. We have a great ride in store for you! This ride will start from Burlington near the Lake, a very short distance from the campus (you have the option of riding directly to the start, a distance of approximately one mile) and go along the Bike Path until we reach the Champlain Causeway. From there we’ll continue to a short crossing via Local Motion’s Bike and Pedestrian Ferry (there is a small fee for this crossing and it goes to a good cause). Once across, we will be cycling in the Champlain Islands of Vermont. Please keep in mind that much of the route, particularly the causeway and West Shore Rd., is graded dirt. This is very passable by the average road bike and is certainly quite easy for a tandem bike. We will return via Ferry and along the bike path into Burlington. Thursday dinner is on your own, but have no fear, Burlington has a great variety of restaurants to choose from. It gets busy in Burlington this time of year so consider getting advance reservations.

New! for Thursday nights only the ferry will run until 9:00PM, so, you could attend the open air concert at Snow Farm Winery (food and drink available) or have dinner in the Islands!

Breakfast at the UVM cafeteria is included. We will start from Champlain Valley School which is a 15-20 minute drive from UVM Campus. From there we proceed to ride into picturesque Bristol for our Ice Cream Social will be held after lunch on the Friday ride. It is a short ride to Bristol, where we will be treated to artisan made ice cream from LuLu’s. After that stop we have several options to complete your ride which return to the start via Monkton and through Hinesburg. The return route has several options affording great views of the mountains, and the Lake as well as traveling through some really beautiful farm land.
