Eastern Tandem Off Road Rally

Mike Bianco

2017 ETOR Rally – October 6-8 – White Clay State Park – Newark, DE

This year’s event is on intermediate trails at White Clay Creek State Park in DE which includes three areas: White Clay Creek Preserve, Middle Run Valley Nature Area & Judge Morris Estate Area.  These ~40 miles of mountain bike trails are rated intermediate and range from easy to moderate, with more trails in the moderate range with smooth to semi-rough surfaces and may include some tight maneuvering through trees.

The ETOR officially begins on October 6th with a Friday afternoon ride followed by a Saturday ride and a Sunday morning ride.  Rally coordinators, Larry & Brenda Isherwood and Joe & Dawn Scheneck will arrive a day early on Thursday & will host a pre-rally mountain bike ride later in the afternoon for early arrivers.

We will have demo tandem rentals available from Alex at MTB Tandems Ph#678-445-0711, on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Contact Alex in advance since there will be a limited amount of tandems and sizes available.  If you purchase a tandem within 30 days of the event, the rental fee will be waived.

Registration Fees:
The ETOR fees are $60/person. Sorry, no discount for children.
Fees cover the ETOR event insurance, trail maps, Friday & Saturday evening hospitality snacks & drinks (beer, wine & soft drinks).  Friday and Saturday night dinners & drinks & dessert.  Social gatherings & dinners will be held in the hotel breakfast room.  Not included in the registration fees are lunches, but bars for the trails will be available while they last. The hot hotel breakfast from 6am to 10am is included with your hotel stay.   Registration is limited so register early!

If you sign up, but have to cancel, we will refund your registration fees up to September 22nd.
After 9/22/17, we will make every effort to refund a portion of your fees depending on how our finances turn out.

We have a block of rooms reserved at the Comfort Inn & Suites at 3 Concord Lane, Newark, DE.  The group rates are for Thursday 10/5 through Sunday 10/8 nights for those that want to arrive a day early or depart a day later than the official rally days.  The discounted group rate is $80.74/night + tax for a room with two queen beds or one king bed.  All rooms have a fridge and microwave. All group reservations have a 12:00 checkout instead of the normal 11:00 checkout.   Check in is 3:00pm.  An early check-in or later check out may be possible, please ask upon arrival.

Call the hotel at 302-737-3900 to make your individual reservation.  To get the group rate, be sure to mention “ETOR” when making your reservation. Hotel cancellations must be made prior to 6pm of arrival but confirm with this with the hotel when you make your reservation.
The room block is available until September 22nd.    Book early to get your first choice of room type!

NOTE: There are some semi-local (20-30 minutes away) campgrounds & if you want some personal input, contact us.

Mountain bike riding:
Tandems or singles with or w/o suspension (mountain bike style) with wider tires (1.9″ knobby tires or wider suggested).
There are ~40 miles of trails.  The trails are mostly moderate rolling single track.  We will ride a different section each day starting from a different parking area each day.  We may use a parking lot one or two days that has a fee of $4 for in state & $8 for out of state vehicles but some are free.  Be prepared with exact cash.  Trails close with significant rain due to their clay base.  Click here to see the Park Map.
